Dr. Guruprasad Bhat, M.B.B.s., D.M. (Medical Oncology) is one of the leading Oncologist of mangalore since last 10 years. After completion of Post Graduation in medicine, got trained in medical oncology for a period of 3 yrs from 2011 to 2014 at Kidwai Memorial institute of Oncology, Bangalore, which is one of the most reputed and largest cancer centres in India. Later joined KMC, Mangalore as Assistant Professor in the department of medicine. Got an opportunity to start oncology services in February 2015, and started the department of oncology in Yenepoya Medical College. Got promoted to associate professor in february 2020 and continued to work till may 2021. The Yenepoya Medical College hospital is a 1100 bedded teaching hospital. Have started the oncology department in Kanachur medical college recently. For the last 7 years have also managed oncology cases in various hospitals and nursing homes in and around Mangalore as a visiting consultant.
Dr. Guruprasad Bhat is recognised for doing the first autologous bone marrow transplant in Mangalore (December 2017). Also he did the first bloodless autologous bone marrow transplant in Mangalore. His works involve O.P.D Consultations, administering chemotherapy, doing autologous bone marrow transplant, with independent decision making and as well as a team member. He is not only known in the field of medicine but also recognized for being the first oncologist to climb both the highest peaks of Africa (Kilimanjaro 19,341 ft) and Europe (Mount Elbrus 18,510 ft). He has written various articles on mountaineering and butterflies of Mangalore.
